Mercedes-Maybach Presents Latest Chapter in Collaboration with Virgil Abloh

The third and final chapter of the Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh collaboration, the custom S-Class model was unveiled exclusively on April 5th. Inspired by the Maybach project, with the capsule collection collaborating with the Off-White label at launch. Designed in 2021 in collaboration with Gorden Wagener, Design Director of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, the vehicle was completed before Virgil Abloh’s death in November. “I am very proud of the work we have done with Virgil. From the Geländewagen project, which set the benchmark for fashion and automotive collaboration with our iconic G-Class, to the Maybach project that took the outstanding legacy of Mercedes-Maybach into the future, with Virgil we truly innovated. The Maybach in the Virgil Abloh Limited Edition represents a symbiosis between the innovative design and ultimate craftsmanship found on the road today,” said Gorden Wagener, Design Director, Mercedes-Benz Group AG. For this collaboration, the team relied on personalization and craftsmanship. Work at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen, Germany. The vehicle features a color scheme created specifically for the Maybach project, with a special “Mercedes-Maybach Virgil Abloh” logo embroidered in the center console, cushions, head restraints and black lacquered center of the panel door sills. Finally, the limited edition S-Class features a user interface with visual elements used to enrich digital content, from home buttons with colored borders and brand logos to indicate editions, to decorative profile photos on fashion accessories. With the purchase of a Mercedes-Maybach x Virgil Abloh powered vehicle, the customer will receive a custom wooden crate in sand-coloured nappa leather engraved with the Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logos. The gift box contains a miniature replica of the car, 2 copies of the keys and a carabiner. Special protective covers with logos are also available to customers. This car is offered in a series limited to 150 units. To commemorate the end of this successful partnership with a clothing line inspired by the Class S model, a capsule collection designed by Virgil Abloh and his label Off-White was simultaneously unveiled. Designed with the Project Maybach electric show car, it is available exclusively at Off-White, Farfetch and Maybach Icons of Luxury online stores, as well as Off-White stores in select markets. Also available on April 5, 2022, this product includes a sand-coloured vintage washed cotton t-shirt, semi-brushed cotton crew neck and hoodie, a canvas baseball cap and canvas running gloves. The limited edition S-Class is Virgil Abloh’s third collaboration with Mercedes-Benz and the second with Mercedes-Maybach. Creative and versatile, Virgil Abloh has multiplied successful collaborations in various fields such as fashion, sports, automotive and furniture in recent years. His disappearance was announced by his family on November 28, 2021. Virgil Abloh died of cancer at the age of 41.
