More than 250 participants took the opportunity to learn about the organization and diversity of these controls. International Food Safety Day International Food Safety Day, celebrated on June 7 every year since 2020, is the perfect opportunity to inform and educate consumers about this issue. In 2022, the day was held under the motto “Food safety, everyone’s business”. It is in this context that the Government’s Commission for Quality, Fraud and Food Safety has published a video on food safety systems, highlighting the responsibility of each link in the food chain: Companies (producers, processors, distributors, etc.) are the responsible for the food safety of the products they put on the market; State controls are carried out in parallel and are based on risk analysis; Consumers also have their responsibilities: how to maintain the cold chain and manage their stock at home. If necessary, they can also report a problematic food or establishment to the authorities. Safety on my plate In its series of conferences, “Safety on my plate”, the Government Commissioner for Quality, Fraud and Food Safety organizes annually an event for the general public on a particularly hot topic in the field of food safety: the diversity of official controls in the food chain a was on the menu in 2022. In the presence of the Minister of Consumer Protection, Paulette Lenert, and the Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development, Claude Haagen, and moderated by Joseph Rodesch, alias Mr. Science. 6 topics were discussed: Animal nutrition; animal welfare; Biological agriculture; Microbiological safety; Food hygiene; New foods Key messages to take away: The European system foresees integrated controls in the entire food chain, from the farm to the table, starting with primary plant and animal production, passing through transformers, trade, the Horeca sector and distribution to the final consumer. All actors in the food chain must ensure that the food they produce, distribute or consume is compliant. State control services carry out non-prior checks based on risk analysis to check that operators comply with regulations. The vast majority of establishments are in good condition. At the end of the presentations, the 250 participants had the opportunity to interact with the speakers in order to deepen one point or another and -surprisingly it was well received- food preparations from new permitted foods, including seeds of chia and insects. The presentations will soon be published on the Food Safety Portal. Communicated by the Ministry of Consumer Protection
