When you’re trying to get in shape, lose weight, or create better habits, having a data tracking app can take away a lot of the confusion. Samsung was aware of this when it launched Samsung Health. You might recognize its old name, S Health, as Samsung’s hub for a better life. Here’s how to use the Samsung Health app for best results. Why use Samsung Health Samsung Health wants to be the hub of your health habits Samsung Health is your go-to hub for all things health-related. Training, water consumption and connection with your running app to have all the information you want in one place. There’s a lot to do in this app, but the goal is to put you in control with the data to back up your plan. When you walk the dog or go for a run, your phone detects the movement and tracks it for you. The app’s main page lists the different activities you want to track, including daily steps, heart rate, and stress. You can customize the app to track things like water intake, caffeine, sleep, and weight management. There are also specific activity trackers for a variety of exercises, including running, cycling and hiking. Set up and complete your profile Your user profile in Samsung Health allows you to track your activities in the app. You can add your photo, nickname and email address for aesthetic purposes. However, it is the other information that is really useful to you. Add your height, weight, gender, age and activity level to make Samsung Health your own. The profile page of the Samsung Health app is displayed on a phone screen. Your profile includes rewards for continued activity, personal memories during workouts, weekly summaries of your activity routine, and a history of the programs you participate in. In fact, your profile gives you an overview of your progress and you receive small rewards for adopting a different lifestyle. Set Achievable Goals Once you’ve decided what habits you want to change or stick to, the next step is to set goals. There are weight management goals, fitness goals, and more. Your profile must be defined beforehand, because these goals are based on changing current habits. Once you’ve set a goal, an indicator appears at the top of the main page of the Samsung Health app. This indicator shows the progress you’ve made towards that goal. When you tap the indicator, you access a detailed analysis of your daily activity, calories burned and other information related to your goal. You’ll also find a page with long-term trends to track your progress, as well as rewards for reaching your goals. Train with friends Not everyone likes to train alone. Having someone to compete with and cheer on can help you stay focused on your fitness goals. While Samsung Health is primarily concerned with your progress, the app’s “Together” tab is all about community. There are monthly community challenges that you can participate in by being active, as well as the ability to find and add friends. There are also challenges for you and your friends so you can achieve bigger and bigger goals. Connect and sync data with other apps There seem to be dozens of health and fitness apps out there. From specific apps to track your blood pressure or weight to calorie counters, you probably have at least one other health app installed. Samsung Health partners with dozens of apps, allowing you to connect them and sync information from those apps with Samsung Health. So, for example, you can track your meals with My Fitness Pal and see that information displayed in the Samsung Health hub. Which phones are compatible with Samsung Health? The Samsung Health app supports all Samsung smartphones since the Galaxy S3, as well as non-Samsung Android phones. Android 4.4 KitKat or later and a minimum of 1.5 GB of storage is required for the app to function properly. The app is also available for iPhones and requires iOS 9.0 or later. This app is usually pre-installed on newer Samsung phones, but can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
