The Streator Food Truck Festival, one of Starved Rock Country’s most popular annual food events, will return to Streator City Park from 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday, September 24th. This fall edition of Streator’s popular outdoor food festival, held in conjunction with the city’s Pluto Fest, will feature more trucks than ever before! More than a dozen trucks from around the state will be serving delicious meals and delicious treats in picturesque downtown Streator. This takeover of Streator’s City Park (301 N Vermillion St.) promises to be a highlight for food truck enthusiasts visiting Starved Rock Country. Illinois’ food truck scene has grown significantly over the past few years, with trucks offering increasingly specialized and delicious dishes. (Tom Sistak for Shaw Media) The Streator Food Truck Festival is hosted by Streatscapes and benefits Streatscapes (the Streator Walldogs Committee, a fund for public art and beautification). This annual fundraising event was created seven years ago to raise awareness of the historic murals’ contribution to Streator in 2018. Today, the annual fundraiser has become a community and public staple . This fall installment of the Streator Food Truck is held in conjunction with Pluto Fest, a celebration honoring Streator native and Pluto discoverer Clyde Tombaugh. Pluto Fest, hosted by Streator’s Hardscrabble Lions Club, will also host a variety of exciting events throughout the day. Streator’s statue of Pluto, which currently stands in the city’s Anderson Fields. Attendees can expect a homemade tasting tent, a farmer’s market, craft vendors and children’s activities, all from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be exclusive Pluto Fest merchandise available for purchase including shirts, wine glasses and mugs made by Streator. Favorite country singer Cody Calkin, backed by a full band, will take the stage starting at 11:00 am and continue until 2:00 pm. Then, from 14:00 to 18:00, famous rock ‘n’ roll tribute act The Ray’s Rockets will bring their non-stop hit parade to the festival grounds. In the fall of 2020, the Portillo food truck visited Streator after the community won a national online voting contest. The stall attracted countless customers and sold out for days, paving the way for even greater success at future food truck events. The popularity of Portillo’s truck and the Walldogs’ track record of hosting well-organized festivals led to a record number of food trucks, serving an eclectic variety of food and desserts, signing up for Saturday’s event. Customers can expect an exciting mix of new offerings and fan favorites. Returning trucks include Grandma Nana’s (great purveyors of gourmet ice cream sandwiches), MiaBella’s Woodfire Pizza, Cruisin Concessions (corndogs and carnival fare), BBQ and Baker and The Olive Branch (gourmet Greek delights). Recently announced trucks include Sweeteaz (flavored teas and boba drinks) and Mamalicious (jerk and curry cuisine). The event is free and takes place in a large open park, with plenty of grassy areas to sit on. Customers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. There will be a limited number of places on site.
