Mercedes reveals the price of the EQS SUV and it hurts (very)

A few months after the reveal, Mercedes opens the order book for the EQS SUV. And the least we can say is that it’s not within the confines of every budget. Remember it was last April. A little over a year after becoming the eponymous sedan, Mercedes unveils the EQS in its SUV version. A rookie in the range that can catch up with brands that have been a little behind in the electric screen so far. Although the European Union has voted to ban the sale of thermal cars from 2035, the German company must therefore speed up, like many others. This latest addition marks a new stage in the development of the EQ range following the EQA, EQB, EQC and other EQEs, not to mention the EQV electric van. Very salty pricing Four months after the official announcement, the Mercedes EQS SUV finally reveals its pricing. And watch your eyes. Because it is far from everyone’s reach. Tickets for the Electric Juggernaut that can now be ordered are €142,900 depending on the organizer. A valid price for the entry-level 450 4MAtic version, while the 580 4MATIC SUV AMG line variant is shown at 160,750 euros. Needless to say, none of these versions are suitable for ecological bonuses that are no longer valid for cars over €60,000. Fortunately, the only AMG line finishes currently available are relatively good in terms of standard equipment. In fact, customers who choose the latter will benefit from the Burmester audio system, heated and air-conditioned front seats, a panoramic sunroof or heads-up display, and a 12.2-inch center screen. On the other hand, if you want to use the HyperScreen, a large screen 1.40 meters wide that spans the entire dashboard, you will need to add more than 8,700 euros. Otherwise, including the latter, you can opt for the “AMG line business class” pack marked for 20,650 euros and many other gear such as the advanced MBUX rear entertainment system or heads-up display. reality. Two engine offerings A total of two versions, the 450 and 580 4MATIC, will be offered at launch. It’s all equipped with two motors, but the first puts out 360 horsepower for 800 Nm of torque and the second outperforms the range with 544 horsepower for 858 Nm of torque. Both are equipped with a 107.8 kWh battery and, depending on the WLTP cycle, this variant has a range of around 595 km. A 450+ version with 360 horsepower and 568 Nm will also be available a little later in this range. A range of 536 to 660 km should be indicated. Capable of accommodating up to seven passengers, the Mercedes EQS SUV is the largest model in the manufacturer’s electric range. With a wheelbase of 3.21 metres, it offers ample ride space and resumes the presentation of the EQS sedan we already know. Trunk capacity has increased from 565 liters to 2,100 liters when the bench seats are folded. The SUV with the stars should especially compete with the BMW iX and Tesla Model X.
